Study and Application on Statistic Power Flow Index

Power grid control center safeguards the bulk power system by monitoring active power flow and managing network congestions. By far, EMS only provided two-dimensional visualized power flow chart, which focused on the power flow limits and real-time monitoring. This paper suggested a multidimensional statistic Power Flow Index (PFI) which was able to analyze, forecast and evaluate grid reliability based on the date mining of operating parameters. PFI helped to discover the potential congestion and enhanced the efficiency of power transmission by plotting power flow distribution curve. By using adjustable time windows and multi-level facility load factors, it is suitable for long-term statistical analysis of different facilities. PFI was one of the essential tools of self-optimal East China Smart Power Grid.
