Starting from deconstructing the challenges faced by the protection of Shanghai Shikumen Lilong, this study analyzes the value characteristics of Shikumen Lilong and the current main protection modes. The renovation and transformation of Shikumen Lilong have entered a new stage, with the rapid disappearance of Lilong and the increasingly difficult transformation becoming unavoidable dual pressures. However, Shikumen Lilong, bearing the memory of Shanghai and the spirit of its citizens, remain an important part of the city. In practice, there are four typical protection modes, each with its own constraints and shortcomings, making it difficult to provide universal guidance. Therefore, the renovation and transformation of Shikumen Lilong still need to be explored rationally in the long-term historical and overall urban dimensions.
