Assessment of the ecological status of the Ulyanovsk region

The article presents the results of a study on the ecological situation in the Ulyanovsk Oblast, using a cartographic approach. This method allowed us to visualize the spatial distribution of various environmental indicators across the region, using four maps. The maps illustrate expenditures on environmental protection measures, the number of stationary sources of atmospheric pollution, as well as emissions of both solid and gaseous pollutants. By analyzing these maps, we identified key trends and patterns in the spatial distribution of these indicators. It was found that Ulyanovsk and Dimitrovgrad cities, due to their large industrial facilities, devote the most resources to environmental protection. Other districts in the region also have large industrial enterprises that impact the environment, though with lower investments in environmental initiatives. The study's findings reveal a disparity in the distribution of pollution sources and investments in environmental protection throughout the Ulyanovsk Oblast region. Most issues seem to be concentrated in areas with higher industrial development levels. However, even in these areas, some territories have a relatively favorable ecological situation. This implies that measures to reduce the negative impact of industry on the environment could be more effective than previously thought.
