Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), widely used as an insulating gas in power systems due to its excellent insulation and arc-quenching properties, has significant greenhouse effects, posing constraints on the development of new power systems. To promote the green transition of grid equipment, the research and application of eco-friendly insulating gases and related equipment have become a focal area of study. This paper discusses the types and properties of common eco-friendly insulating gases and reviews the recent developments in the application of equipment utilizing such gases. Finally, we present an outlook on future trends in eco-friendly insulating gas development.
