Physico-chemical characterization of the soil and inventory of plants growing near the Ain Mkbrta thermal spring in Morocco

Abstract
In order to preserve the ecosystems located near water springs in Morocco, due to their importance in terms of biodiversity, our study concentrated on the physical and chemical characterization of the soil located near the Ain Mkbrta spring in the Fez region. In addition, we have identified plants that are adapted to the unique environmental conditions and that flourish in these regions. The outcomes of soil physico-chemical analyses showed unique features. The soil has a balanced silty texture, a basic pH and a high organic matter content. Electrical conductivity, bioavailable elements and metals show variable values. The station studied is characterized by a rich plant diversity, including species such as Trifolium hirtum, Polypogon monspeliensis, Lythrum junceum, Typha angustifolia, Juncus acutus, Pilosella officinarum and Melilotus officinalis. The study identified a range of plant species of great ecological interest, representing a significant advance in our understanding of local biodiversity. By deepening our knowledge of the ecosystems present, these results offer several important perspectives for the conservation and sustainable management of these areas.
