Effects of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) rates on emission characteristics of ethanol and methanol diesel blended fuels

The introduction of ever more stringent diesel emission standards is associated with a reduction in greenhouse gases. These limitations push many researchers working in this field to look for alternative solutions with the aim of lower greenhouse gas emissions. One of the alternatives is the use of alternative fuels and additives in order to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels. The use of alternative fuels such as ethanol, methanol and others in combination with traditionally used technologies such as exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is one of the solutions that would lead to the limitation of diesel engines emissions. The aim of the present study is to investigate the performance of a diesel engine with ethanol and methanol additives combined with different degrees of recirculation on engine emissions. For this purpose, a model of a diesel engine with EGR with the possibility of working with ethanol and methanol additives has been developed.
