The issue of spatio-temporal distribution of the atmospheric aridity index SPI on the territory of Uzbekistan by month of the year is considered based on precipitation data from 1966 to 2015 at meteorological stations of the regional centers of the Republic. The adequacy of the SPI index in diagnosing dry (wet) years and its informativeness in analyzing precipitation regimes is shown. Oscillation spectra (periodograms) of the SPI index were obtained for 13 weather stations in Uzbekistan. The main periods of oscillations of 0.5, 1, 2.5, 5 and 10-12 years were identified, caused by fluctuations in the climate system on a global scale, caused by external factors. Features of the spectrum on a local scale are manifested in the structure of the periodogram, its sparseness/accuracy (number of peaks), which can be used as an objective criterion when performing climatic zoning of the study area.
