Abstract
Abstract. In the summer of 2023, a Legionnaires' disease outbreak occurred in Miyagi Prefecture, with a cooling tower identified as the source. Legionella bacteria were detected in the cooling tower at 680,000 CFU/mL (standard value: 1 CFU/mL), and 23 infections were reported within a 3 km radius. In this study, meteorological data from the specific period and GIS information of Osaki City were integrated into CFD modeling to calculate the distribution of Legionella within a 5 km radius of the source. Furthermore, a quantitative risk analysis was conducted, accounting for removal effects such as humidity and UV radiation during airborne transmission.
Key words: CFD / Legionella bacteria / meteorological data / UV light inactivation
