Dynamics of twin elevated jets in cross-flow
Kutateladze Institute of Thermophysics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Novosibirsk, Russia
The present study examines dynamics of elevated parallel jets in cross-flow configured with jet-to-jet separation distances 2.7 jet diameters and velocity ratio 2.6, using thermoanemometric method. The jets are issuing normally into a crossflow. It is shown that the trajectory of a twin jet, higher near the source, further downstream becomes lower than that of a single jet. An analysis of the velocity isolines showed that the studied jets merge only at a large distance from the point of their entry into the flow, in the region where the jet stream loses its shape and mixes with the drift flow, before that they, interacting, distributed separately. It was found that the jet stream has a flattened appearance; its vertical dimensions are much smaller than the transverse dimensions.
