The article is focused on the analysis of the need and importance of the humanitarian-educational factor in the formation and implementation processes of the concept of sustainable development. The article draws attention to the potential advantages of this concept over other approaches proposed to address the “conflict” nature of interaction between two global systems of our time: economic and environmental. It also focusses attention on one of the most important factors of the most difficult task of practical implementation of sustainable development, the humanitarian-educational-educational factor, which forms fundamental primary bases in people, triggering the processes of greening in all major spheres of society: state-administrative, state-legal, economic-technological, spiritual and moral, etc. It is the educational factor that provides in all these spheres through the productive forces of society involved in them, first of all, people with world outlook, economic, cultural, moral, moral, aesthetic understanding of all that without which it is impossible to achieve real sustainable development. In addition, the specific ways of the mechanism of impact of the humanitarian-educational-enlightenment factor in the processes of formation of conflict-free interaction between society and nature and damage-free ecological-economic (through the proportioning of costs and benefits) sustainable development are considered. The need to reorient the education system to promote sustainable development through the formation of responsible individual behaviour is substantiated.
