Impact of the New Master Plan for Brasília Zoo 2057 - Brazil: A Comprehensive and Propositive Analysis

The research project entitled: “Environmental and Accessibility Requalification of the Brasília Zoo”, under development at the Laboratory of Sustainability Applied to Architecture and Urbanism (LaSUS) at the University of Brasilia (UnB), focuses on improving the accessibility and environmental interaction of the site. The “Master Plan for Occupation - Zoo 2057” proposes a reorganization of the Brasília Zoo with the goal of enhancing visitor experience and accommodating the needs of the animals in a more effective and sustainable manner. This plan includes a new zoning of the zoo, segmenting areas according to biomes, climates, and the taxonomy of species, which facilitates environmental education and species preservation. The proposed restructuring also emphasizes the importance of clear and defined paths for visitors, aiming to maximize accessibility and educational interaction. This is complemented by enhanced support infrastructure, such as clear signage and resting points, ensuring that the zoo is accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Furthermore, the plan focuses on integration with the local community and the preservation of the natural environment, ensuring that the zoo functions as a sanctuary for fauna and as an educational space for the community. The proposal reflects efforts to align the Brasília Zoo with sustainable and inclusive practices, promoting both environmental conservation and animal welfare.
