Optimizing Local Assets in Wellness Tourism Development and Implications for Environmental Sustainability in Indonesia

This research aims to provide an objective and accurate summary of research on the potential development of wellness tourism in Indonesia to support environmental sustainability. This research used 75 online mass media based on topics related to the time from 2019 to 2024 and visualized via the Nvivo 12 plus application with the crosstab feature to get a visual overview. Data from the mass media uses the keywords “wellness tourism,” “Indonesia,” and “environment,” as well as online mass media news, which only discusses wellness tourism in the areas of Bali, Jakarta, Jogja, Solo, and Semarang. This article can contribute to the collection of knowledge and be accurate in contributing knowledge data regarding potential types that can be developed into wellness tourism in Indonesia and their implications for environmental sustainability. The research results show that Indigenous Healing Traditions, Spiritual Traditions, and Medical Services are potential types that can be developed into wellness tourism in Indonesia. The implications of developing wellness tourism in Indonesia can support the conservation of natural heritage and biodiversity and limit waste to support environmental sustainability. This research can contribute to collecting knowledge qualitatively and accurately and to knowledge data about the potential types of wellness tourism in Indonesia and their impact on environmental sustainability.
