Experimental Investigations on Nano Silica Concrete
Department of Civil and Structural Engg., Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu, India gmanojgopalan@gmail.com
In construction industry the innovation and advancement technology has major scope in new inventions. Nano materials plays their role in the improvement of the construction sector by enhancing the material properties. Nano particles which are having high surface area compared to its volume. Nano materials are more reactive and improve the concrete mechanical properties. In order to study the performance of the nano silica concrete, the various mix ratios were used. The optimum dosage of nano silica in concrete was found. Various dosages of nano silica 0%, 1.5%, 2%, 2.5%, 4%, 6%, 8% were attempted. A constant water to cementitious materials ratio of 0.45 was kept for all mixtures. The results indicate that the incorporation of nano silica increased the compressive strength of the concrete when compared to control concrete. Compressive strength, Modulus of Elasticity and flexural strength of the nano silica-based concrete were also examined.
Key words: Nano silica / Compressive Strength / Flexural Strength / Elasticity / Dosage
