Assessment of the prospects for the development of green land rail transport in a large metropolis

Abstract

Purpose: to assess the prospects for the development of rail transport in a large metropolis (based on the materials of St. Petersburg. The relevance of the study is due to the fact that in modern conditions of development of urban transport systems, the demands of citizens - residents of the metropolis for the quality of transportation by urban public transport, in particular, for mobility (speed), comfort, safety, and environmental cleanliness, are increasing. These requirements increase the propensity of residents to use public transport, which gradually reduces the use of private cars and, consequently, lowers exhaust emissions, air pollution and noise levels in the metropolis. Methods: statistical systematization, observation, analysis of statistical data sets, selective observation, analysis of normative legal acts, descriptive analysis of reporting data of transport organizations. Results: a rating assessment of the use and demand for individual routes of rail ground transport in St. Petersburg metropolis was carried out, recommendations were given on updating and modernizing the tram route network in St. Petersburg, a system of indicators was proposed that allow implementing a model for managing public transport services by ground rail electric transport, application points were determined efforts to ensure the growth of the importance of investors in the future. Practical results: effective measures for the modernization and renewal of the transport network for a large metropolis, coupled with improved indicators of public transport services, are proposed.
