Fishermen’s poverty in Indonesia: Exploring the role of education, gender, and production efficiency in achieving the SDG 1

Abstract
The research is conducted to identify the factor that influence among fishermen poverty in Indonesia which support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 1. The quantitative Binominal Logistic Regression is used to determined that factors influence fishermen poverty. The results show that education level, household size, household members working in fisheries, cooperative facilities, and production efficiency impact have negative sign influence probability to poverty. However, gender and trips, have a positive effect on the probability of a household being in poverty. This study also emphasizes the crucial role of cooperative facilities and production efficiency in reducing the economic vulnerability of fishing households, a topic that has received limited attention in previous studies. The practical implication to reduce the fishermen household poverty the government should improve education access, household size control, optimization of household members’ participation in fishing activities, development of cooperative facilities, increased production efficiency, empowerment of women in fishing communities, and more economical and sustainable trip management are needed.
