The concept of a circular economy has gained significant attention in recent years as a sustainable alternative to traditional linear economic models. In this paper, we delve into the integration of environmental sustainability principles into the framework of the circular economy, thus proposing the concept of the Green Circular Economy (GCE). We provide a comprehensive review of the current state of research and practices in the field of the GCE, covering its theoretical foundations, key principles, implementation strategies, and potential benefits. Furthermore, we discuss the challenges and barriers hindering the widespread adoption of the GCE and propose innovative solutions to address these issues. Finally, we outline future research directions and offer recommendations for policymakers, businesses, and stakeholders to accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable and resilient economic system.
