Bibliometrics analysis of environmental sustainability issues: Trends, challenges, and future directions

This study explores the thematic development and evolution of literature on environmental sustainability, emphasizing the significance of interdisciplinary approaches to tackle global sustainability challenges. Recognizing the urgent need for policy actions and educational innovation, the research aims to map key themes, contributors, and trends from 1999 to 2023 using bibliometric analysis of the Scopus database. The methodology includes network analysis of keyword co-occurrence, author affiliations, and country contributions, supported by a comprehensive literature review. Findings show a growing focus on education for sustainable development, green technology adoption, and international collaboration. This study underscores the importance of evidence-based policies and cross-sector partnerships to effectively address environmental issues. It also highlights the critical role of technology, education, and policy in promoting sustainable behavior. Insights from this research support the development of targeted strategies for educators, policymakers, and researchers to enhance awareness and drive change. The results offer a foundation for climate change mitigation efforts and contribute to public education by suggesting the creation of informative video content packages. These can aid in increasing societal understanding and engagement with environmental preservation, ultimately helping to reduce the long-term impacts of climate change through collective, informed action.
