Most family houses in Slovakia built between 1950 and 1970, typically with a square floor plan, do not meet today's strict energy efficiency requirements. In Slovakia, there are funds available to help finance part of the investment costs for renovation. A new version of the directive on the energy efficiency of buildings outlines the requirements necessary to meet today’s strict standards for achieving nearly zero-energy buildings. Retrofitting a family house is important to ensure a better indoor environment while also achieving energy savings. This article focuses on three variants of complex renovation for a typical family house, based on the application of energy-saving measures. These measures mainly involve the renovation of external structures, but it is also essential not to overlook building services, which are a crucial part of every building. By using high-quality and efficient building service equipment, it is possible to meet today’s strict energy efficiency requirements for buildings.
