Abstract
The economic crisis in the Spanish wine Protected Designations of Origin (PDO) has reduced the number of wineries and the average price of hectoliter. However, the recession period also generated adjustments in other dimensions of the sector. In this work, the evolution of the market type of Spanish PDOs during the crisis is analyzed using product customization indicators. As a result a general increase in the number of brands per winery and a reduction in their average size are observed. Despite this, there are territorial differences associated with the prior to the crisis situation.
