This study explores the integration of agriculture and tourism through banana agro-tourism in Indonesia, focusing on the Kelompok Tani MAJAS initiative in Yogyakarta. The Kelompok Tani MAJAS serves as a notable case study, showcasing both the potential and challenges of banana agro-tourism. The group has embarked on the Banana Village Program, a structured 12-step initiative aimed at integrating agricultural production with tourism and education. However, significant challenges have hindered progress beyond the production phase. Key obstacles include inadequate infrastructure, such as poor road conditions and limited transportation access, and the predominant reliance on traditional farming methods by an aging farmer population. Additionally, the initiative struggles with limited marketing capabilities and the need to comply with stringent international export regulations. Through a qualitative methodology, including semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, and direct observations, this research delves into the perspectives of local farmers and international buyers. The findings underscore the importance of strategic planning, robust support systems, and active community participation in overcoming these challenges. The study highlights the potential of banana agro-tourism to drive sustainable economic growth, enhance export opportunities, and empower local communities, provided that infrastructural and educational investments are made to support this innovative approach.
