Based on the data of 84 listed oil and gas companies in China from 2012 to 2021, we empirically analyzed the impact of the digital transformation level of China's oil and gas companies on the level of carbon emissions through fixed panel model and mediation effect model. The results of the study show that the development of digital transformation significantly reduces the carbon emissions of oil and gas enterprises, and that digital transformation reduces the carbon emissions of enterprises mainly by being able to influence the optimization of enterprise structure and accelerate technological innovation. There is a moderating effect in the influence of digital transformation and carbon emissions for oil and gas enterprises. These conclusions hold after robustness tests and consideration of endogeneity issues.
