Abstract
Surabaya has experienced quite significant changes in land use. These changes in land use reflect the dynamics of rapid urban growth. However, these changes do not always have a positive impact, but also have a negative impact on the sustainability of life in urban areas. The study related to changes in land use in the city of Surabaya is important to see how much change has occurred and what types of changes are. The method used in this study is spatial analysis by comparing land use over a five-year period from 2019 to 2024. From the results of data processing, it was obtained that most of the changes in land use that occurred were from non-built-up to built-up land or settlements with a total area of more than 150 hectares. Changes in land use to settlements are often found in East and West Surabaya. Control over land use is important to ensure the environmental sustainability in the future. Therefore, detailed regulations on the use and control of space, as well as the granting of building permits for new settlements in Surabaya must be strictly monitored to minimize negative impact on the sustainability of the City of Surabaya.
