Port of Barcelona: A development strategy turned to France

Abstract
Geopolitical issues are not only to be considered at a global level. They sometimes concern smaller territories, as illustrated by the Spanish political crisis, marked by Catalonia's push for independence in 2017. For the Port of Barcelona, this independence-related crisis has highlighted the need to expand its hinterland, particularly towards France. After tracing the origins of this crisis within the context of a broader economic slowdown, this article examines the practical implementation of this territorial expansion strategy by the Port of Barcelona, a pioneer in this field in Spain.
